Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope Heyward in the Netflix series "Outer Banks," described an instance where his "Do Revenge" co-star Camila Mendes reminded him to appreciate his show's storylines. Daviss recounted complaining about the direction of "Outer Banks" to Mendes, only for her to counter with an example from her own experience on "Riverdale."

Daviss explained that while discussing "Outer Banks" with Mendes, he was detailing the show's plot developments. Mendes, who starred as Veronica Lodge in "Riverdale," responded by highlighting the supernatural elements her character experienced. "We have superpowers this year," Mendes told Daviss, who was taken aback.

Mendes elaborated, mentioning her character had "slime powers," which led Daviss to retract his complaints. "I'll shut the hell up. I'm sorry," Daviss recalled saying.

Daviss's comparison comes as "Outer Banks" has evolved from its initial island-centric premise. The current season involves the search for a crown with resurrection properties, a departure from the series' early seasons. He noted that some fans have described the show's narrative shift as "Riverdale-ification," a term referencing "Riverdale's" evolution.

"Riverdale," based on Archie Comics, followed a group of high school students dealing with mysteries. Over its seven seasons, the series incorporated significant supernatural elements and alternate timelines. In its sixth season, "Riverdale" introduced an alternate reality called "Rivervale," where characters developed superpowers. The show eventually returned to an altered version of its original timeline, but many characters retained supernatural abilities.

Chase Stokes, who plays John B. in "Outer Banks," also commented on the show's plot, acknowledging that some storylines had caused him to question the direction. However, he expressed relief that "Outer Banks" had not ventured into the extreme narrative territory seen in "Riverdale," such as a comet impact leading to time travel.

Both "Outer Banks" and "Riverdale" are available for streaming on Netflix.
