Jon Stewart is returning to The Daily Show earlier than expected, taking his seat at the Comedy Central desk tonight as the late-night landscape shifts this week. The former host, who typically anchors the Monday edition, was reported to pause until Sept. 22 after the Emmys, according to LateNighter. Instead, Stewart will be back on air Sept. 18, just days after ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its U.S. stations.

Stewart’s return arrives as Kimmel's suspension becomes the dominant topic in talk-show circles this week. ABC's move came after Kimmel commented on how Republicans and Democrats have handled the murder of outspoken conservative Charlie Kirk, triggering a rare cross-network confrontation and prompting questions about the future of late-night blocks on ABC's schedule. With Stewart back at the desk, viewers should expect his take on the developing situation and broader industry trends.

Stewart hasn't shied away from criticizing his corporate owners. Earlier this year, he used a pointed monologue on The Daily Show to take aim at Paramount Global for canceling The Late Show With Stephen Colbert amid its $8 billion merger with Skydance Media, arguing that the value of the canceled hours helped fuel the deal. "The shows that you now seek to cancel, censor and control ... a not insignificant portion of that $8 billion value came from those shows," he said, underscoring how programming can influence corporate strategy.

On the air, The Daily Show remains a daily staple on Comedy Central, with new episodes available the next day on Paramount+. Paramount+ offers two subscription plans: Essential at $7.99 per month with ads, and Premium at $12.99 per month that includes Showtime and live CBS. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial. The show also streams on Comedy Central VOD, and The Daily Show continues to air on Comedy Central at 11/10c, with streaming access the following day on Paramount+.
