Johnny Depp made a striking, nearly unrecognizable appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, channeling Ebenezer Scrooge to promote his new film, "Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol." The actor was seen in full costume, complete with a top hat, heavy overcoat, cane, bushy brows, patchy gray facial hair, and lengthy sideburns, evoking the iconic Charles Dickens character.

Depp, 63, mingled with cosplayers dressed as his well-known characters, including Willy Wonka, Edward Scissorhands, and Captain Jack Sparrow. He later took the stage in Hall H, holding a nearly burned-down candlestick, as the trailer for the film, directed by Ti West, was released online.

Previously, Depp was photographed on the London set of "Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol" in February, also in costume. In those images, he appeared alongside co-star Andrea Riseborough, who plays the Ghost of Christmas Past.

The film, which also features Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, and Rupert Grint, is scheduled for release on November 13. This role marks Depp's return to mainstream Hollywood films following his 2022 defamation case victory against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Depp had sued Heard for $50 million, alleging defamation in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. While Heard was initially ordered to pay Depp $15 million, she was awarded $2 million on a counterclaim. The case was settled in 2022 with Heard agreeing to pay Depp $1 million. Prior to this U.S. legal matter, Depp lost a 2020 libel case in the UK.
