John Whaite, the Great British Bake Off winner and a former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, revealed on Thursday that he has quit OnlyFans after 11 months on the platform. The television personality had rejoined the adult site earlier this year, saying his 12-year TV career didn’t light a fire for him anymore. In an Instagram video, Whaite disclosed that in that period he took home about $270,000 and suggested he could have earned substantially more if he had devoted more time to the site. He stressed that he is not money-driven and intends to refocus on his baking career at Ruff Puff Bakehouse.

In addressing the question of earnings, Whaite described it as an elephant in the room, noting that some people believe he made millions on OnlyFans while others think he made nothing. He said, 'The truth honestly in 11 months I took home $270,000, so it can be a very lucrative platform if I had spent more time on that and more of my time solely to OnlyFans, I probably could have double, tripled, quadrupled that.' He added that success on the platform hinges on marketing and catching people’s eyes, and providing a reason to subscribe: 'It’s not just about making content, it’s about marketing and catching peoples eyes and giving them a reason to subscribe.' Despite acknowledging the platform’s potential, Whaite emphasized that he is not driven by money and would rather channel his energy into his baked goods at Ruff Puff Bakehouse.

'I have a lot of respect for those who are on and successful on OnlyFans. But for me I’m not money driven like that. I find much more fulfillment with working at people at the Ruff Puff bakehouse,' he said, adding that he would miss the social interaction and creativity of the platform but not the pressure to maintain a certain physique: 'I’ll miss chatting to people and the creativity of it but what I won’t miss is feeling like I have to be muscular and I want to feel like I can get a bit fatter here and there and it wasn’t healthy being obsessed with my body image.' The baker said he plans to concentrate on his brownie business, Ruff Puff Brownies, and his bakery Ruff Puff Bakehouse, aiming to return to a talent he felt he had neglected.

The claim comes as Whaite continues to balance a busy career in food media with his entrepreneurial ventures. He rose to fame after winning The Great British Bake Off in 2012 and has since diversified his portfolio, including writing and presenting roles. He said his decision to step back from OnlyFans is a move toward sustainability and personal wellbeing rather than a financial calculation.

Whale of controversy accompanied his return to public life last year when he publicly criticized a retailer for its handling of his content. In March, Whaite accused Waitrose of removing his recipes from its website shortly after he rejoined OnlyFans. He claimed that when fans clicked on his Waitrose profile, they were redirected to a 'Guest Recipes' landing page featuring recipes from eight other chefs instead of his own. He said his catalog of YouTube videos with Waitrose had also disappeared, effectively erasing part of his online legacy. Whaite argued that the removal was linked to his work on OnlyFans. A Waitrose spokesperson previously told The Sun that the retailer regularly reviews and updates recipes and was grateful for Whaite’s work with them. Daily Mail sought comment from Waitrose at the time.

The timing of Whaite’s departure from OnlyFans underscores a shift in priorities as he leans into the Ruff Puff brand. He described his aim to leverage his culinary talents in a way that aligns with his personal health and long-term business goals. Whaite has consistently advertised the Ruff Puff Bakehouse as a hub for his baking ventures, including his Ruff Puff Brownies line, and has spoken about the importance of sustainable growth over short-term gains. Analysts note that his transition reflects a broader industry pattern among content creators who diversify into traditional business ventures, leveraging their public profile to build enduring brands beyond a single platform.

As Whaite charts the next chapter of his career, fans and followers will watch how his balance between television, social media appearance, and hands-on baking evolves. Whether the move away from OnlyFans becomes the catalyst for a broader rebranding of his work remains to be seen, but his focus on Ruff Puff Bakehouse and its related products signals a continued emphasis on edible artistry and consumer engagement without the pressures of maintaining a highly curated online persona.
