Actor John Goodman, 74, revealed that his significant 200-pound weight loss has left his body feeling "messed up" and that he is still coming to terms with his changed appearance. Goodman, who previously weighed close to 400 pounds, discussed his transformation on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast.

Goodman explained that the drastic weight reduction led him to express concerns about appearing nude in the HBO show "Righteous Gemstones." "I thought I was going to have to be naked in it and I said, 'I don't know. My body's too messed up losing all this weight,'" he said. The show's creators were able to adjust the scene, and it was completed.

He also shared that he is still adjusting to his new look. "I'm still trying to get used to my face," Goodman admitted. "It's weird. I think of myself as one way and then I look at myself, 'Oh, wow!' It's strange. It's fun to get used to. There's a lot of stuff I'm getting used to."

Goodman believes his former appearance may have hindered his career, describing it as a form of "self-sabotage." He noted that while he was getting enough work, he wonders if he was holding himself back. He generally ignores comments about his appearance, acknowledging it's "fair game, up to a point" given his profession.

The actor previously detailed how his addictive behaviors shifted from drinking to eating, contributing to his weight reaching nearly 400 pounds. After getting sober in 2007 at age 55, his weight fluctuated significantly, with him losing and regaining as much as 80 pounds in a summer. He described this cycle as tiring and decided to take steps to prevent it from continuing.

Goodman recounted that his drinking had led him to a point where he "had to be hospitalized one way or the other." He realized that drinking was delaying his maturity and making him selfish, causing him to neglect "real life" and wish to "live in Animal House the whole time."

Following his weight gain, Goodman underwent stomach surgery, which led to complications. He also became anemic and lost a layer of fat under his skin, leaving him constantly feeling cold. He has since had two knee replacements and finds himself needing to "force" himself to go to the gym.

In a separate interview, Goodman stated that he wished weight loss injections had been available when he was trying to slim down, as they could have helped him curb his "addiction" to food. He emphasized that his relationship with food had become "dangerous" and that his joints were suffering from the excess weight. He confirmed he is not currently using such medications but understands their potential benefits.

Goodman became widely known for his role as Dan Conner in the sitcom "Roseanne." His weight was a frequent subject of jokes and plotlines during the show's run. He previously shared that after giving up drinking, he lost 100 pounds by 2010, cutting out sugar and exercising six days a week with a trainer. He also remarked that being heavier had been "a waste."
