Joan Jett has canceled her remaining two scheduled concerts for 2026 following orthopedic surgery for a fractured vertebrae. The announcement was made by her team via her Instagram Story on Tuesday.
Jett and her band, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, were slated to perform in Costa Mesa, California, on September 5, and in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 24. Her team stated that she will be focusing on physical therapy and the healing process. "While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing. She's looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come," the statement read.
In Costa Mesa, Cheap Trick will perform in Jett's place, with X opening the show. The Pacific Amphitheatre noted that tickets for Jett's scheduled performance will be valid for the Cheap Trick show, with options for refunds available.
The Louisville concert was part of the Bourbon & Beyond festival. The festival's lineup also includes artists such as Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Chris Stapleton.
Jett, who rose to fame in the 1970s with the band The Runaways and later founded Joan Jett & the Blackhearts in 1979, has had a prolific career. The band released 10 albums and achieved major hits like "I Love Rock ’n Roll," "Bad Reputation," and "I Hate Myself for Loving You." Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
In recent years, Jett has toured with artists including Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe. Her band released their first acoustic album, "Changeup," in 2022, followed by the EP "Mindsets" in 2023. The band's most recent U.K. headline tour concluded in July.
Jett has previously spoken about the physical demands of decades on the road and how she has adapted her fitness routine as she has aged, incorporating walking and weights, particularly after a shoulder operation. "The traveling, that’s the one part of my job that I don’t love. It’s all wear and tear on your body," she told USA Today in 2025.
