Singer Jessie J has announced her separation from her five-year partner, Danish-Israeli basketball player Chanan Safir Colman. The 38-year-old artist confirmed the news on Instagram on Monday, stating that their romantic relationship ended "some time ago."
In her Instagram post, Jessie J shared a photo of herself with Colman and their son, Sky, writing that the situation has been "sad and difficult." She emphasized their commitment to navigating the change privately and positively to maintain a healthy co-parenting environment for themselves and their son. She also noted that sharing the news publicly is the easiest way to convey the truth before rumors circulate.
"We will always continue supporting each other with love, respect and care as friends and most importantly being Skys Mum and Dad," she wrote. "So if you see us out and about together as a family, or posting each other on socials every now and again. That’s exactly what we are doing. Raising and loving Sky together, supported with a positive friendship."
Jessie J and Colman welcomed their son in May 2023, and they began dating in 2021. Colman had been a supportive presence in Jessie J's life, particularly during her breast cancer journey. She announced in May that she had received the all-clear from cancer, a year after her diagnosis. Colman was by her side throughout her hospital stays and treatment.
In May 2025, Jessie J had spoken about her views on marriage, stating that having a child together meant they were already "locked in." While she anticipated they might wed "one day," she expressed that marriage was not a current priority. "I've always said that I'm not too fussed about getting married," she told PEOPLE magazine at the time, describing marriage as "quite contractual" but expressing a desire to affirm their love with a ceremony attended by friends and family. She added that she hoped to marry when their son, Sky, was old enough to be a part of the celebration.
Colman had previously expressed deep admiration for Jessie J as a mother. In March 2025, he wrote on social media, "Watching you become a mother - not just creating life, but nurturing, teaching, loving, and injecting our little human with so much personality, humour, and wisdom - has been the single most poetic thing I've ever witnessed in real life."
Jessie J's past relationships include a nearly two-year on-off romance with actor Channing Tatum, which ended in October 2020, and a previous relationship with singer Luke James that concluded in November 2014. She also dated Max Pham in 2021.
Recently, Jessie J had to address pregnancy rumors after posting an image on Instagram with her hand on her stomach. Responding to fan speculation, she clarified that the only thing on the way was new music.
