Jeremy Clarkson joked about his use of the weight-loss drug Mounjaro as he accepted a National Television Award at the O2 in London on Wednesday — and drew attention when he neglected to thank his partner, Lisa Hogan, during his speech.
The 65-year-old presenter collected the prize for Factual Entertainment for his Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm and quipped, "I should explain I'm on Mounjaro, my trousers are falling down," after coming on stage. Clarkson later referenced his production team, saying they had "worked way harder than anyone else in this room." He did not mention Hogan, who appears on Clarkson's Farm, during his remarks.
Clarkson has previously discussed his experience with prescription diabetes drugs in recent months, saying he lost about two stone after beginning treatment with Mounjaro. He told readers in a column that an earlier attempt with Ozempic left him feeling unwell and produced no sustained weight loss, and that "microdosing" Mounjaro had been "the trick."
The presenter has also spoken publicly about a serious health episode last year that is featured in the new series of Clarkson's Farm. Clarkson said he became progressively unwell between August and October while working to open his pub, The Farmer's Dog, and later underwent urgent two-hour surgery to hold arteries open and improve blood flow to his heart. He wrote that doctors told him some of his current work "will have to go" and suggested he consider replacing it with golf, but said he was unlikely to stop working.
The first four episodes of the latest series were released on Prime on Friday. Clarkson has written about the difficulties of adjusting his diet following the illness, describing it as "horrific" for a longtime meat-eater and saying he struggled to "make celery interesting." He has also discussed his drinking in interviews, saying he believed alcohol remained a challenge to long-term weight control.
Clarkson's remark about trousers followed months of media attention on celebrities' use of GLP-1 receptor agonists and related drugs, which have become a frequent topic in public discussion about weight management. Clarkson framed his comments in a comedic tone during the awards ceremony; the National Television Awards event drew dozens of winners and nominees from across British television.
Representatives for Clarkson did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the acceptance speech. The series-winning Clarkson's Farm continues to document the activities on his farm and associated business ventures, including work on his new pub and the health issues he disclosed in recent columns and interviews.
