Jennifer Finch, the bassist and vocalist for the 1990s grunge band L7, has died at the age of 59. Her death follows a public battle with an aggressive form of cancer, which included undergoing brain surgery just days prior.
The news was announced on Saturday evening via an Instagram post on Finch's official account. The post included a photo of the musician and stated, "We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch. Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso. We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time."
Earlier in the week, Finch had shared a photo of her surgery scar, and her family and friends had initiated a GoFundMe to help with her cancer battle. She had publicly announced her diagnosis with a brain tumor on Monday.
Finch was a founding member of L7, joining the Los Angeles-based band in 1986, a year after its formation. She remained with the group until 1996. After the band disbanded in 2001, L7 reunited in 2014. The group announced their farewell tour, "The Last Hurrah 2026," in May, with dates scheduled to begin in October.
Prior to her passing, Finch's loved ones established a GoFundMe campaign, which had surpassed its $350,000 goal, raising $393,596 by Saturday evening. The funds were intended to support Finch's medical care, rehabilitation, and in-home support, as well as to cover significant out-of-pocket medical expenses and legal fees. The campaign also aimed to help preserve Finch's artistic legacy by creating an archive of her work. Her family noted the difficult reality that "Jennifer may have more good days behind her than ahead."
