Jennifer Finch, a founding member and the bassist and vocalist for the influential 1990s grunge band L7, has died at the age of 59. Her death comes days after she underwent brain surgery for an aggressive form of cancer.
An announcement of her passing was shared on her official Instagram account Saturday evening. The post included a smiling photograph of Finch and stated, "We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch. Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso. We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time."
Finch was a prominent figure in the grunge music scene of the 1990s. L7, formed in Los Angeles in 1985, gained a significant following with their raw sound and confrontational style. The band's lineup in their most recognized period included Finch, Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner, and Demetra 'Dee' Plakas.
Prior to her death, Finch had shared an image of her surgical scar, and her family and friends had initiated calls for donations to aid in her cancer treatment.
