Jason Statham returns to his signature action-hero persona in Lionsgate's latest film, "Mutiny." Directed by Jean-François Richet, the movie features Statham as Cole Reed, a former British police officer working as head of security for a shipping company owner in Bangkok. The plot kicks into gear when Reed is framed for his employer's assassination and subsequently uncovers a human smuggling operation aboard one of the company's cargo ships.

"Mutiny" offers a straightforward narrative centered on Reed's quest for vengeance and his efforts to rescue the migrants involved in the smuggling ring. The film presents Statham in a familiar role, performing stunts and engaging in well-choreographed fight sequences against a menacing captain and his crew.

Annabelle Wallis co-stars as Angie Ellis, the third mate who aids Reed aboard the ship. Roland Møller portrays the villainous captain, Markos Madsen.

The film has been described as a "mindless but amusing brawler flick" that delivers precisely what Statham's audience expects. While Statham is praised for his continued ability to perform action sequences, the review suggests his performances are most compelling when he steps outside his typical roles, citing his turn in the comedy "Spy" as an example.

"Mutiny" runs for 1 hour and 35 minutes and is rated R for strong/bloody violence and language. It is currently in theaters. The film follows Richet's previous directorial work on the 2023 action film "Plane."
