Jason Bateman was joined by former Ozark co-stars Laura Linney and Sofia Hublitz at the New York premiere of his new Netflix drama Black Rabbit on Tuesday, forming a brief on-screen family reunion at the red-carpet event.
Bateman, 56, arrived in an all-black ensemble — T-shirt and single-breasted blazer — and posed with Linney, 61, and Hublitz, 25, as the three shared smiles and group photographs at the premiere and its after-party. Linney wore a grey metallic suit and Hublitz opted for a black suit as photographers captured the trio together.
Black Rabbit is billed as a drama that pairs Bateman with Jude Law as troubled brothers Vince and Jake Friedkin. Law’s character is a successful restaurateur whose business is poised to become a hot new destination in New York, but the unexpected return of his brother threatens the enterprise and escalates into wider conflict. The series also stars Amaka Okafor, Troy Kotsur, Abbey Lee and Cleopatra Coleman.
The reunion recalled Bateman’s time on Ozark, the Netflix crime drama that ran four seasons and ended in 2022. Bateman played a financial adviser turned money launderer who relocates his family to rural Missouri after becoming entangled with a Mexican drug cartel. The series earned 32 Primetime Emmy Award nominations during its run, including two nods for Outstanding Drama Series. Bateman won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series in 2019, and co-star Julia Garner won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2019 and 2020.
Bateman was photographed earlier in the week in New York with his family. He attended the premiere events with his wife, Amanda Anka, 56, and their daughters Francesca, 18, and Maple, 13. Bateman and Anka were married July 3, 2001.
Bateman’s career includes a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award, and he has been nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award. In interviews he has been candid about earlier personal struggles; in a 2009 interview he said, "I'd worked so hard that by the time I was 20, I wanted to play hard. And I did that really well... it was like Risky Business for ten years." Bateman has since continued to act and direct in television and film projects.
Black Rabbit marks Bateman’s latest lead role for Netflix and continues the trend of established television ensembles reuniting at high-profile premieres. The series’ New York debut follows promotional appearances and industry previews ahead of its release on the streaming service.
