Chef James Martin, 53, made a rare red carpet appearance at the TRIC Awards, showcasing a noticeable three-stone weight loss. He attended the event with his fiancée, Kim Johnson, 39.
Martin displayed his slimmer frame in a grey suit and unbuttoned white shirt. Johnson wore a blue minidress. The TRIC Awards, hosted by TRIC president Dan Walker, celebrate prominent figures in television, radio, and online content, with categories including 'soap of the year,' 'best radio talk show,' and 'sports presenter.'
The appearance comes after Johnson seemingly confirmed their engagement on social media. Reports suggest Martin proposed over Christmas, followed by gifting Johnson a £150,000 Land Rover as an engagement present. This marks a shift for Martin, who previously expressed disinterest in marriage, citing his extensive experience catering weddings.
"Marriage doesn’t interest me in the slightest, mainly because I’ve catered for so many weddings, really," Martin told the Sunday People in 2019. "I admire people who do it, that’s fine, but I’m quite happy. I don’t need to spend 60 grand on a day, no, I’m more than happy thanks."
Martin and Johnson's relationship became public in April 2024 when they were seen shopping at Tiffany's in Mayfair. Johnson subsequently moved into Martin's country home in Hampshire.
This engagement follows Martin's split from long-term girlfriend Louise Davies after 12 years together. A spokesperson confirmed their amicable separation in December 2023. Martin and Davies began dating in 2011 after meeting on the set of 'Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?'
Kim Johnson was previously married to businessman Arun Nayar, 61. They married in July 2016 after a five-year courtship and divorced the following year. Nayar had previously been married to Elizabeth Hurley.
Martin attributes his recent weight loss to dietary changes, including consuming fish twice daily and increasing water intake. "Losing weight is a balance of everything, it's getting off your a**e and doing more and not eating less, but eating a variety of different things. Water is the key," he explained.
Martin has had previous success with weight management, losing four stone for his participation in 'Strictly Come Dancing' in 2005. He has also commented on how television cameras can create an illusion of increased weight.
