The search for the next James Bond is reportedly entering its final stages, with a shortlist of five to seven actors undergoing final auditions in London.
Casting director Nina Gold is said to be narrowing down the field of potential 007s. Among the leading contenders are Callum Turner, known for "Master Of The Air"; Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has appeared in Marvel films; Jonathan Bailey of "Bridgerton"; and Jack Lowden from "Slow Horses."
Several actors linked to the coveted role have recently secured endorsement deals with brands closely associated with the James Bond franchise. Media experts suggest these deals may offer clues as to the producers' preferences.
Callum Turner, 36, has reportedly signed a deal to promote Johnnie Walker, a whisky featured in the film "No Time To Die." Aaron Taylor-Johnson has become a global ambassador for Omega, a watchmaker whose timepieces have appeared in multiple Bond films. Jonathan Bailey has signed with Martini, the drink famously ordered by the spy.
"What we’re seeing is a string of calculated PR moves," Mark Borkowski, a media expert, told The Mail on Sunday. "None of these brands have signed the actors by accident, they know they could be the future 007."
Borkowski explained that these brand partnerships offer actors increased visibility and allow them to be perceived as fitting the role, potentially influencing casting directors' decisions. For brands, a successful endorsement deal with the next Bond could prove highly lucrative.
However, one actor, Jack Lowden, may have seen his chances diminish after appearing in an advertisement campaign for Mini Cooper, a car marque considered less aligned with Bond's signature Aston Martin.
Producers are expected to confirm the next James Bond by the end of the year. Amazon MGM, which now controls the franchise, aims to begin filming the next movie in 2027. Bond producer Amy Pascal stated that "the end of the year is a good bet" for a decision.
Ms. Gold is understood to have been meeting with candidates since June. Other actors previously rumored to be in consideration include James Norton, Tom Holland, and Theo James.
