Creator Liz Meriwether has offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the development of potential scripts for a "New Girl" reunion, detailing some of the more unexpected requests from the cast. Among them, Jake Johnson, who played Nick Miller, reportedly desired a fully nude dance number.
According to Meriwether, Johnson's request involved a solo dance to Dua Lipa's "Levitating," with the character entirely nude. However, Meriwether stated she could not incorporate the scene, as it "didn't really make any sense in the story," a decision that reportedly left Johnson "really upset."
Meriwether also shared other cast members' notable suggestions. Lamorne Morris, who played Winston Bishop, is said to have repeatedly requested more elaborate jewelry for his character, including a chain reaching his knees. Max Greenfield, who portrayed Schmidt, allegedly pushed for the reunion to be titled "Max Greenfield is the New Girl," a concept Meriwether dismissed as likely to "throw audiences."
These comments follow speculation fueled by Max Greenfield's earlier remarks on "Today with Jenna & Sheinelle," where he suggested a reunion was happening and that Meriwether had written "amazing" scripts. Meriwether playfully countered that the scripts were good until the cast began providing extensive notes.
Johnson later offered a humorous explanation for the script confusion, suggesting Greenfield might have mistakenly read scripts for Meriwether's new show, "Furious," rather than "New Girl" reunion material. Greenfield has since responded with a lighthearted joke about mistaking the shows.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation of a "New Girl" reunion. The series, which also starred Zooey Deschanel, Hannah Simone, and Damon Wayans Jr., aired for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018.
