Actress Jaime Winstone embraced Madonna's iconic 1980s aesthetic, complete with a curly blonde bob and a black cap, for the launch event of Madonna's new album, 'Confessions II'. The event took place on Thursday night at Magazine London and was presented by Grindr.
Winstone's ensemble drew inspiration from Madonna's early, rebellious photoshoots from 1989, capturing a look from just six years after the release of her self-titled debut album. The actress also incorporated elements of Madonna's 1990s cone-bra attire, donning a shimmering dress featuring the distinctive design.
'Confessions II,' Madonna's fifteenth studio album, is scheduled for release on July 3. The album title appears to be a nod to the singer's 2023 'Celebration Tour.'
Separately, Madonna discussed her relationship with her daughter, Lourdes Leon, during an appearance on Graham Norton's BBC show. The singer revealed that Leon was initially 'very standoffish' while working together on a song for the new album. Madonna explained that her daughter felt she didn't want to be perceived as benefiting from her mother's fame and had held onto resentment. Despite these initial tensions, Madonna stated that the collaborative songwriting process ultimately healed their relationship.
"She approached me, she's been very reluctant to work with me. She doesn't want to be perceived as my daughter, taking advantage of her privilege," Madonna told Norton. "She's been very standoffish and working at her own pace, and I respect that deeply. She's a great songwriter and has a much better voice than I do."
Madonna added that Leon later acknowledged her feelings, saying, "I realise I've been holding onto something" and suggested writing a song together as a "healing experience." Madonna described the resulting lyrics as beautiful.
In previous interviews, Leon has spoken about seeking independence from her mother, describing Madonna as a "control freak" and noting that she paid for her own college education and first apartment to achieve this autonomy. Madonna, however, has praised her daughter's talent in past interviews.
Madonna also reflected on her relationship with her late brother, Christopher Ciccone, who passed away in 2024. She described him as the person closest to her for a long time, noting their bond stemmed from a shared understanding of being different and facing societal challenges. Ciccone, who had worked with Madonna as a backup dancer, dresser, and art director, had a public falling out with the singer in 2000. He later expressed resentment over sacrificing his own artistic ambitions to support her career and referred to her as an "evil queen" in a leaked email.
Christopher Ciccone co-wrote the book 'Life with My Sister Madonna' with Wendy Leigh, which was published eight years after their feud. In the book, he made critical remarks about Madonna's appearance and behavior.
'Confessions II' is set for release on July 3 through Warner Records.
