Jackie 'O' Henderson abruptly left the KIIS FM studio on Wednesday after a heated argument with co-host Kyle Sandilands during an ad break, bringing a segment of The Kyle & Jackie O Show to a tense pause before producers continued the broadcast.
Kyle Sandilands told listeners the dispute began when Henderson accused him of not being interested in what she was discussing. After the exchange, Sandilands said Henderson "cracked the sh*ts and left," and he enlisted producer Jaimee "Mayo" Hassos to co-host while staff tried to contact Henderson. The pair later spoke by phone, and Sandilands said he regretted the argument, calling it "the worst day of his broadcast career."
Sandilands told listeners he had objected to Henderson's characterization that he had been uninterested, saying, "I said, 'That's how you've been to me,' and she said, 'That's not true.'" He added that when other staff did not back her up, Henderson left and initially told him she "wasn't coming back." Sandilands said he was unhappy about her departure because he "loves the woman."
After the on-air walkout, show producers kept the program on air. A recorded voice announced the broadcast was temporarily taken off air, and Sandilands later criticized the station's censor after an earlier interruption of the show tied to a planned discussion, saying he had already cleared the content with the legal team. Sandilands accused station management of treating radio differently from television and newspapers on matters of contempt of court and expressed frustration with what he described as "archaic" rules.
Sandilands' on-air comments escalated in a separate incident in July when he stormed off during a broadcast after the show was taken off air the previous day following heavy censorship related to discussion of a legal case. In the most recent episode, Sandilands said he would not "waste [his] life coming in here when [he is] being given this instruction, that instruction," and complained about being "puppeteered" by others. He later indicated a willingness to de-escalate and spoke to Henderson by phone.
Following the argument, the show called Henderson and Sandilands apologized, the hosts reported. Henderson agreed to continue contributing to the program from her home studio rather than return to the shared studio that day. Producers and station management did not immediately release a statement.
The Kyle & Jackie O Show has a long-running partnership and a history of contentious moments that have played out on air. Sandilands and Henderson have previously been censored and pulled from the air during controversial discussions, prompting public debate about broadcast standards and the boundaries of live radio. The station's on-air censor told Sandilands during the broadcast that director Bruno Bouchet had made the decision to dump the segment, a move that Sandilands questioned publicly during his home broadcast.
Neither Henderson nor KIIS FM has issued a full public statement detailing the cause of the Wednesday clash beyond the on-air exchanges. The program resumed regular scheduling after the hosts' phone discussion, and station staff arranged for Henderson's remote contributions while tensions were addressed.
The incident is the latest high-profile on-air dispute involving the Sydney-based show, which remains one of Australia’s most listened-to radio programs. Management and the hosts have navigated several such confrontations in recent years that have drawn media attention and raised questions about editorial oversight, legal compliance and the dynamics of live broadcasting.
