Jack Lowden, a name frequently mentioned as a potential successor to James Bond, is set to embody another iconic British figure: Mr. Darcy. First-look images released by Netflix from its forthcoming adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" showcase Lowden in the role of the wealthy and aloof master of Pemberley.

In the images, the 36-year-old Scottish actor presents a commanding presence with his shirt sleeves rolled up beneath a dark waistcoat, open collar, windswept hair, and a stern expression. This portrayal offers a distinct interpretation compared to previous on-screen Darcys played by Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen.

Joining Lowden is Emma Corrin, known for her role in "The Crown," who appears as Elizabeth Bennet. Corrin's depiction is equally windswept, clad in a burgundy empire-line dress and an embroidered gold jacket, with her short curls loose around her face.

The upcoming series, a six-part drama, is scheduled for release on December 3. The ensemble cast features Olivia Colman as the lively Mrs. Bennet and Rufus Sewell as her sardonic husband. Newcomer Hopey Parish makes her screen debut as the studious Mary Bennet, while Rhea Norwood and Hollie Avery portray her younger sisters, Lydia and Kitty.

Daryl McCormack is cast as the charming Mr. Bingley, with Jamie Demetriou playing the pompous clergyman Mr. Collins and Louis Partridge as the deceitful militia officer George Wickham.

The adaptation is penned by Dolly Alderton, author of "Everything I Know About Love," and directed by Euros Lyn, whose previous work includes "Heartstopper" and "Doctor Who." Alderton has described Austen's 1813 novel as the 'blueprint for romantic comedy' and aims to present the story in ways that are both familiar and fresh.

Lowden's casting as Mr. Darcy comes amid ongoing speculation about his potential to become the next James Bond. He has prior experience in espionage roles, notably as MI5 agent River Cartwright in the Apple TV series "Slow Horses." His "Slow Horses" co-star Gary Oldman has fueled these rumors, suggesting that Daniel Craig's successor has been chosen and expressing his support for Lowden.

Lowden is reportedly among several actors considered for the coveted 007 role, with others including Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi. The next Bond film is expected to be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight. This will be the first James Bond film since Daniel Craig's final appearance in "No Time To Die" in 2021.
