Ivanka Trump spent Sunday aboard a yacht off Miami with model Gisele Bündchen and instructor Joaquim Valente as President Donald Trump attended the U.S. Open men's final at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, photographs and eyewitness accounts show.
The 43-year-old was photographed lounging on the boat in a plunging black bikini top and a Missoni beach towel wrapped around her waist. She wore her hair in a low ponytail, sunglasses and a baseball cap, and appeared relaxed as the trio ate lunch and soaked up the late-summer sun.
Ivanka Trump has trained for years at Joaquim Valente’s Miami Beach jiu-jitsu academy, Valente Brothers, and was seen in animated conversation with her companions during the outing. Valente was accompanied by Bündchen, who was identified by onlookers.
Her husband, Jared Kushner, did not accompany her to Miami; Kushner and their 13-year-old daughter, Arabella Kushner, were among guests who appeared in Trump’s box at the U.S. Open in Queens. Also in the president’s box were White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
Trump’s attendance at the match prompted heightened security at the tournament. The United States Tennis Association sent an email to broadcasters, including ESPN and Sky Sports, instructing them to censor protests or reactions to the president’s presence, according to reports. Those in the stadium greeted Trump with both loud cheers and some boos, reporters in the arena noted.
Since stepping back from a political role after serving in her father’s first administration, Ivanka Trump and Kushner have relocated to Miami with their three children: Arabella Rose, 13; Joseph Frederick, 10; and Theodore James, 8. The family’s residence on Indian Creek Island, described by public records as a 1.3-acre property overlooking Biscayne Bay, was purchased after their exit from Washington.
In public comments earlier this year, Ivanka Trump described jiu-jitsu as beneficial to her family. On The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast in January, she said the practice is “almost like a moving meditation” and likened it to “three-dimensional chess,” noting that her daughter wanted to try the sport.
Ivanka Trump has frequently shared aspects of her private life on social media since the move, posting images of reading, travel and meditation. She and Kushner attended social events this year, including a June wedding in Venice for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
The president has made sporting events a prominent part of his schedule in his second term. In addition to attending the U.S. Open final, he traveled to the Super Bowl earlier this year and is expected to be in New York again for a ceremony at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 11, the anniversary of the 2001 attacks.
Photographs of Sunday’s yacht outing show Trump in casual conversation with her companions and shielding her eyes from the sun as the group reclined on deck. The appearance underscored the split in locations over the weekend between the president’s public engagements in New York and members of his family who remain largely based in Florida.
