Pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce celebrated their wedding in a lavish $50 million ceremony held at Madison Square Garden. The event, described by guests as "America's 'wedding of the century,'" featured a surprise performance by Sir Paul McCartney, who sang "I Want To Hold Your Hand," and comedian Adam Sandler as the officiant.
An Elaborate Transformation
The iconic New York venue was transformed into a "garden within the Garden," according to Swift's description. Event designer Edward Perotti estimated the cost of hiring hundreds of workers and custom construction to be between $35 million and $50 million. Full-sized trees, tens of thousands of peach and white roses, and decorative elements like peach carpets, velvet curtains, and hanging lanterns created a romantic ambiance. The venue typically hosts the New York Knicks basketball team and has a capacity of 20,000.
Swift and Kelce, both 36, wore custom Christian Dior outfits designed by Jonathan Anderson. Swift's attire included an embellished white gown with a long train, a lace veil, custom Christian Louboutin shoes, and Cartier diamonds. The bride's "something blue" was notably represented by the Empire State Building, which was lit up in sapphire for the occasion.
A Star-Studded Guest List and Performances
The nuptials were attended by approximately 1,000 guests, including a high-profile roster of celebrities from the entertainment world. Attendees reportedly included Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Sacha Baron Cohen, Hugh Grant, Reese Witherspoon, Graham Norton, Ethan Hawke, Ed Sheeran, Cindy Crawford, Suki Waterhouse, Emma Stone, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Dua Lipa, Jessica Alba, Chris Rock, Bradley Cooper, Dakota Johnson, and Gigi Hadid.
Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks also performed during the reception, following McCartney's set. Swift's brother Austin served as her "man of honour," while Kelce's brother Jason was the best man. Their young nieces acted as flower girls. DJ Chop UFL, a friend of the groom, described the event as an "unbelievable celebration and experience."
Adam Sandler, who became an officiant for the ceremony, was described as "warm, welcoming, funny and eloquent" by guest Adam Aron, chairman of AMC Theatres. Aron also noted that enlarged photos of Swift and Kelce from childhood through their teenage years were displayed throughout the venue.
Details of the Celebration
Following the vows, guests were treated to a reception featuring buffet stations with sushi, an ice sculpture with lobster and oysters, and a roast beef carvery. A vintage red 1970s Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport with a custom license plate reading "JUST&TMRD" was displayed in one of the reception rooms. Guests received parting gifts of white lace handkerchiefs embroidered with the couple's initials and a lyric from Swift's song "Blank Space."
While the event was marked by widespread celebrity attendance and elaborate details, former President Donald Trump posted an image on social media contrasting Swift's Eras Tour poster with one of himself, reportedly stemming from Swift's refusal to endorse him during his re-election campaign. Actress Blake Lively was also reportedly not invited, following a dispute.
Despite the high-profile nature of the wedding, guests described the event as feeling "personal" and "intimate," with the couple's vows being "long, entertaining, charming, emotional and endearing."
