Hugh Jackman and his girlfriend Sutton Foster recently faced online criticism after performing a duet at a benefit gala for the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine. The musical theater stars sang "A Million Dreams" from Jackman's 2017 film, "The Greatest Showman," a performance that social media users described as "cringey" and difficult to watch.
During the rendition, Jackman, 57, and Foster, 51, exchanged frequent eye contact while performing the ballad. The pair, who previously starred together in the Broadway revival of "The Music Man" before their relationship became romantic, appeared to enjoy the opportunity to perform together again. However, their on-stage chemistry did not resonate with all viewers.
"I'm sure they are both lovely people but the cheese is just too much!" one commenter wrote. Others expressed disappointment with the performance, with one user stating, "Dreadful! So off-key, both dire," and another remarking, "Seems like this is the wrong key for both of you."
Jackman wore a monochromatic outfit consisting of a white dress shirt and black pants, while Foster wore a yellow sequined gown. The performance comes amid reports that the couple is finding it challenging to balance their demanding careers and personal time. An insider reportedly told Woman's Day that the couple has been lacking "quality time together" due to Jackman's extensive work commitments. The source also suggested that Foster, who is raising her nine-year-old daughter Emily Dale with screenwriter ex-husband Ted Griffin, finds it difficult to accompany Jackman to all his events due to her own career obligations and parental responsibilities.
