Paramount has greenlit a sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” with original stars Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in talks to reprise their roles. Development is in its early stages, and neither a screenwriter nor a full cast has been secured.

Mason will also serve as a producer on the project, according to reports. The film, which marked its 23rd anniversary this year, starred Hudson and McConaughey as Andie Anderson, a magazine writer, and Benjamin Barry, an advertising executive, respectively. The plot followed their entanglement when Andie attempted to drive Benjamin away as part of a feature article assignment, while he, unaware of her plan, had bet his colleagues he could make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days.

Matthew McConaughey recently shared that “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” remains his most lucrative film in terms of residuals. He told Entertainment Weekly that the rom-com continues to generate more income than any of his other movies, noting that it used to yield a significant check each March, coinciding with Valentine's Day viewership.

“It still pays the best mailbox money of any film I’ve ever done. By far. By lengths,” McConaughey stated. He also referred to the film as an “anchor in the rom-com genre through time.”

Previous discussions about a potential sequel have surfaced. In 2020, McConaughey told E!’s Daily Pop that the film was “teed up” for a follow-up, calling it a “really good one” for the romantic comedy genre. More recently, in June, Hudson shared two stills from a scene where her character and McConaughey’s character attended a New York Knicks game, captioning the Instagram post with “Déjà vu” and a winking emoji.

Filmmakers are hopeful that Hudson, 47, and McConaughey, 56, will reprise their roles as love interests Andie and Benjamin

The original film, directed by Donald Petrie, earned approximately $180 million at the box office against a $50 million budget. It also featured supporting roles from Kathryn Hahn, Annie Parisse, Adam Goldberg, and Thomas Lennon.
