Paramount has greenlit a sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," with original stars Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in consideration to reprise their roles.
Development on the sequel is in its early stages, and a screenwriter and full cast have yet to be secured. Hudson is expected to serve as a producer on the project. The film comes 23 years after the original was released, starring Hudson and McConaughey as Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry.
The original movie followed Andie, a magazine writer tasked with writing an article on how to drive a man away in 10 days, and Benjamin, an advertising executive who bets his colleagues he can make any woman fall in love with him in the same timeframe. Unbeknownst to them, their assignments lead them to each other.
McConaughey recently told Entertainment Weekly that "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" remains his most lucrative film in terms of residuals, calling it his "favorite rom-com" he has made. He noted that the film continues to generate significant earnings, particularly around Valentine's Day.
Hudson previously hinted at the possibility of a sequel in June, sharing images from a scene where Andie and Benjamin attend a New York Knicks game. She captioned the post with "Déjà vu" and a winking emoji, fueling speculation among fans.
In a 2020 interview with E!'s Daily Pop, McConaughey stated that the film was "teed up" for a potential sequel. The original film, directed by Donald Petrie, grossed $180 million worldwide against a $50 million budget.
