Cheryl Henderson, 65, and Lynn Bisbee, 78, have married after living together as housemates for 30 years, a union that followed their confession of love for each other just three months prior.

The couple first met in 1993 and moved in together near Columbia, South Carolina, in 1996. While Bisbee admitted to being attracted to Henderson from their initial meeting, Henderson was initially hesitant about her sexuality.

A Life-Changing Realization

In June 2026, Henderson underwent an immersive therapy experience that led to a realization of her deep feelings for Bisbee. This personal breakthrough paved the way for the couple to openly acknowledge their romantic connection. Shortly after Henderson shared her feelings, Bisbee proposed, and the two friends were married on September 20, 2026.

"It's been a quick few months after years of waiting, but we're so happy now," Henderson, a retired therapist, stated. "We just got back from our honeymoon and even though we lived together for decades, it feels deeper now."

From Friendship to Romance

Bisbee, who lived in North Carolina at the time, would travel to visit Henderson before they decided to move in together. "I knew I was attracted to her from when I first saw her, but then we just became friends," Bisbee recalled. "We got on so well that I was happy to make these trips, but it soon became pretty arduous so we decided to move in together."

Henderson acknowledged that internal struggles with her sexuality had prevented her from pursuing a relationship with Bisbee for many years. The shift began earlier in 2026 when Henderson focused on her health, with a doctor recommending somatic breathing exercises. During an online session, Henderson described an image of being in a dark prison, which she interpreted as a desire to break free, calling the experience a "real awakening."

A Swift Transition to Marriage

The couple initially planned to marry the following spring but decided during the summer that they could not wait. Bisbee’s cousin transformed her two-car garage in Stowe, Vermont, into a wedding venue. The ceremony took place on September 20, surrounded by family and friends.

"It was all super fast which we weren't expecting," Bisbee said. "But it ended up being a perfect way to celebrate us and the new phase in our relationship."

Following their wedding, the newlyweds honeymooned in New England. "I sincerely feel free for the first time in my life," Henderson said. "And I know Lynn says she feels like she finally has a space where she belongs. It took a while, but I'm very glad we made it here."
