Producers of the Australian soap Home and Away are reportedly eager to secure Matilda Ledger, the daughter of late actor Heath Ledger, for a guest role while she is expected to visit Western Australia in October.

A source told Woman’s Day that Home and Away "would move mountains" to have Matilda appear in a special episode, a development made possible by the series planning a storyline to be filmed in Western Australia at the same time Matilda is due to be in the state to spend time with her father’s family.

Matilda Ledger, 20, who is based in the United States, is reported to be taking time in 2025 for travel and family visits. Her father, Heath Ledger, appeared on Home and Away for a nine-episode stint in 1997, portraying a character named Scott. The timing of the soap’s Western Australia shoot has prompted interest from producers in arranging a cameo that would tie back to Ledger’s earlier connection to the show.

Sources said Matilda spends extended time in Australia with her paternal family and feels closely connected to her father when she is there. Reports circulated last year that she planned a 2025 gap year; the same accounts say she is weighing study options and may consider staying in Australia to pursue higher education, though she has also been linked to several colleges in New York.

Heath Ledger and actress Michelle Williams were in a relationship from 2004 until late 2007 and welcomed Matilda in October 2005. Ledger died in New York City on January 22, 2008, at age 28. Reports have said Ledger’s parents signed over his assets, estimated at about US$16.3 million at the time of his death, to Matilda.

Michelle Williams has kept Matilda largely out of the public spotlight during her upbringing. Williams later married theatre director Thomas Kail in 2020; the couple have since had two children. Media reports have described Ledger’s parents as keen to see more of their granddaughter, whom they have called their "little New Yorker."

The discussion about a possible Home and Away appearance stems from the convergence of Matilda’s planned travel and the soap’s production schedule in Western Australia. The reports cited do not include direct confirmation from Matilda Ledger or Channel Seven concerning any casting plans or offers.
