The Hollywood Bowl vibrated with the magic of cinema and the power of the Force this past Friday as the Los Angeles Philharmonic launched a three-night tribute to legendary composer John Williams. The event, titled "Maestro of the Movies: A Tribute to John Williams," featured performances of scores from beloved films such as "Star Wars," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Jaws," "Indiana Jones," "Harry Potter," and "Jurassic Park."
Under the baton of conductor David Newman and hosted by actress and director Bryce Dallas Howard, the concert brought Williams' celebrated film music to life for an enthusiastic audience. Many attendees embraced the theme, arriving in costumes inspired by "Star Wars" characters. The first 500 ticketholders received lightsabers, which became a prominent visual element as evening fell, illuminating the amphitheater.
The program was enhanced by over 50 minutes of specially edited film clips, the most ever integrated into this tribute concert series at the Hollywood Bowl. Highlights included the soaring theme from "E.T.," "The Barrel Chase" from "Jaws," "The Cave" from "Raiders of the Lost Ark," selections from "Harry Potter," and the iconic "Throne Room and Finale" from "Star Wars: A New Hope."
The second half of the concert featured a diverse array of Williams' compositions, including the "Superman March," the "Olympic Fanfare and Theme," the "Jurassic Park" theme, music from "Schindler's List," and a concluding piece from "E.T."
The tribute continued through the weekend, offering two additional performances on Saturday and Sunday for audiences to experience the renowned composer's work performed live.
