High-end escorts are reporting significant financial gains during the World Cup, with some earning over $10,000 per day from wealthy fans and athletes attending the tournament. These escorts describe clients engaging in "super intense" luxury dates at high-end establishments, with requests ranging from companionship and dinner to more intimate encounters.
One London-based escort, who identified herself only as Claudia, has been operating in Los Angeles during the event. She charges a minimum of $2,000 for a two-hour booking, which can include companionship, dinner, and sex. She noted that many of her clients are well-known soccer players, though she declined to provide specifics due to non-disclosure agreements.
Claudia described varied client preferences based on nationality. American clients, she said, tend to be shyer, often requesting pegging and expressing a desire for relaxation and release from tension. In contrast, her British and German clients are more direct, seeking domination and explicit instruction. Clients from Saudi Arabia and Qatar are described as "precious clients" who desire total domination but remain respectful.
While Claudia has found the experience lucrative, others in the sex work industry have faced challenges. Lucy Huxley, a Canadian escort based in Berlin, claimed she was indefinitely banned from entering the U.S. in 2017 after being stopped by border patrol agents while traveling to Minnesota. She stated that upon discovery of her sex work on social media, she was detained, questioned, and deported.
Authorities have also conducted prostitution stings near host stadiums. In one instance, eight individuals were arrested in New Jersey near MetLife Stadium.
Despite these challenges, the World Cup has created what some in the sex trade consider a "golden opportunity." An estimated 9,000 European sex workers reportedly traveled to North America for the tournament, with an additional 22,000 considering the trip. Agencies have begun marketing football-themed services, with one company, GFEBox, advertising premium companionship for wealthy fans starting at $2,500 per day.
However, not all sex workers have seen an increase in business. One New York-based escort reported a slowdown, attributing it to the high costs of travel, accommodation, and tickets, which she believes leaves fans with less discretionary spending power.
