Helena Christensen was photographed in New York City over the weekend with her son, Mingus Reedus, in their first public appearance since he was arrested on assault and harassment charges following an alleged late-August incident, police and media reports say.
Christensen, 56, was walking her dog wearing a striped sundress, a button-up shirt and orange flip-flops, while her 25-year-old son joined her in gray sweatpants, a pale blue T-shirt and black sneakers. He carried a small box of food and had wired earphones around his neck.
The appearance comes after accounts published by the New York Post and TMZ that detailed the circumstances of Mingus Reedus’s arrest. According to those reports, police responded to an apartment on West 16th Street after a 911 call, and officers said they found a 33-year-old woman who alleged she had been struck and choked. The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
TMZ reported that it reviewed a complaint in which the woman described being choked with both hands, struck on the leg with a closed fist and thrown to the ground, sustaining bruising, redness and significant pain. The outlet also reported that the woman has sought a court-ordered protection order.
Police said the 911 call began at about 8:40 a.m. on a Saturday and that Mingus Reedus was arrested after the woman accused him of assault. News accounts said footage obtained by the New York Post showed him being led out of a building and placed into a cruiser. When briefly leaving the 10th Precinct later the same day, Reedus told a reporter, "I didn't," in response to a question about why the police were called, and declined to offer further comment.
Prosecutors have since charged Reedus with assault and harassment, according to media reports. Details of formal filings and the defendants’ next court dates were not included in the initial reports. Representatives for Reedus and for the woman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Helena Christensen and actor Norman Reedus began dating in 1998 and welcomed their son, Mingus Lucien Reedus, in October 1999. The couple separated in 2003. Norman Reedus later had a child with actress Diane Kruger in 2018.
The reported arrest and subsequent public sighting come as both family members continue to maintain low public profiles. Legal proceedings and any potential protective measures related to the complaint remain matters for the courts and police to resolve.
