Heidi Klum, 53, has shared that her husband, Tom Kaulitz, encouraged her to gain weight, a sentiment that contrasted with the pressures she experienced early in her modeling career. Klum, married to the Tokio Hotel musician since 2019, told UsWeekly that Kaulitz advised her to "eat more" and that she would "look better if you had more meat on your bones."
"The industry… you’re always supposed to be skinnier than you are," Klum said, reflecting on the constant pressure to be thin. "When I look back at photos, I’m like, ‘He’s right!’ Proportion-wise, I look better bigger."
Klum, who has previously been described as a "catalog model" and faced criticism for her body shape, recounted instances where photographers made her cry, with some telling her she was "too fat." She noted that she has "gained weight over the years" and is "no longer a size 24 jean."
The model also expressed disinterest in weight loss drugs like Ozempic, stating, "I’m not interested at all."
Klum also touched on her past marriage to Seal, 63, mentioning that he faced criticism regarding his appearance. "When I was married to Seal, [people] would say, ‘How can he have this horrible skin?’ He has lupus, and quite frankly, I think he looks beautiful," she said.
She emphasized the importance of self-acceptance, stating, "You can’t please everyone, and not everyone is going to like what you do, but you have to look in the mirror and be happy with who you are."
Klum, who shares four children—Leni, 22, Henry, 21, Johan, 19, and Lou, 16—with her ex-husband Seal, also commented on her personal life, expressing a preference for spending time at the beach with Kaulitz. "I love being in my tiny G-string, going topless, swimming through the water and feeling free, and then just doing nothing," she shared. She attributed this comfort with nudity on the beach to her European upbringing, noting that on some French islands, it is a common practice.
