Cast members from the NBC superhero drama "Heroes" reunited to celebrate the life of their late co-star Hayden Panettiere. The gathering, described as "deeply emotional," served as a tribute to the actress who died on August 16 at age 36.
Jimmy Jean-Louis, who portrayed The Haitian on the series, shared a photo on Twitter of the cast together, with some joining virtually via Zoom. He wrote that the reunion was filled with "sadness in our hearts, but also so much love, gratitude, and warmth as we remembered the beautiful moments shared and the lasting impact of a life that touched so many." Panettiere played Claire Bennet, a teenager with regenerative powers, in the show, which ran for four seasons and garnered multiple awards.
Other "Heroes" cast members also shared tributes. Jack Coleman, who played Panettiere's on-screen father, expressed his sorrow and remembered her happiness on set, her advocacy for animal welfare, and her courage. Masi Oka, who portrayed Hiro Nakamura, recalled Panettiere's "beautiful spirit, immense talent, and the joyful energy she brought." He added that she was "wiser beyond her years and now gone too soon."
Several other Hollywood figures who worked with Panettiere paid their respects. Emma Roberts, a co-star from "Scream IV," shared a photo with a message of love and remembrance. Kim Cattrall, who appeared with Panettiere in the 2005 film "Ice Princess," wrote that the actress was gone "far too soon." Connie Britton, Panettiere's co-star on the series "Nashville," posted a montage of photos, stating, "I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak. I love you girl. Sleep easy now."
Selma Blair, a friend of Panettiere's, commented on her final Instagram post shortly after news of her death, expressing anguish and love.
Panettiere was found unresponsive in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina. Paramedics at the scene reported a suspected overdose, and Narcan was found in the apartment. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has joined the parallel investigations by the Greenville Police and the coroner's office. Toxicology results are pending to determine if narcotics contributed to her death. Her on-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother were present at the scene when she was pronounced dead.
