Hayden Panettiere has canceled her appearance at Creep I.E. Con due to an unspecified emergency, the convention announced Friday. The event, taking place July 11 and 12, stated that Panettiere, 36, is welcome to attend a future show.
"Hayden Panettiere has an emergency and will not be able to attend this weekend. We are looking forward to her appearing at an upcoming show," the convention's statement read. A representative for Panettiere did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Panettiere was slated to appear at the convention alongside "Scream 4" co-star Nico Tortorella. "Lolita" star Dominique Swain has been announced as a replacement guest for Saturday and Sunday. Other notable guests expected at the convention include Christopher Lloyd, Mira Sorvino, Tara Reid, Billy Zane, and Jamie Campbell.
Panettiere's cancellation follows that of other celebrities, including Tori Spelling. Christina Ricci, John Carroll Lynch, and Carel Struycken have rescheduled their appearances for a later date.
Before her role in the "Scream" franchise, Panettiere began her acting career as a child. She appeared in commercials and landed roles on the soap operas "One Life to Live" in 1994 and "Guiding Light" in 1996. In May, Panettiere discussed her experiences as a child star, describing it as a "brutal experience" that led to her first identity crisis at age 12. "It's the most brutal experience, like the stark cold room, and just this row of people judging you," she shared during a panel discussion in West Hollywood, California. Panettiere recently released her memoir, "This Is Me: A Reckoning."
