Harry Styles addressed fan concerns about his potential retirement during a recent concert at Madison Square Garden, explaining his earlier remarks about not knowing what comes next.

During the ninth night of his MSG residency on Saturday, Styles, 32, took a moment to clarify an email he had sent to fans earlier that week, in which he wrote, "I don't know what comes next." This statement had fueled speculation about his future in music.

"I sort of just want to be honest about who I am and where I am in my life," Styles told the audience. "I didn't wanna get to the end of the tour as we have previously and sort of say 'until next time.' I just wanted to be a little more honest with you about that."

He reflected on his career, which began at age 16, and a perceived industry pressure to constantly achieve more. "I think a lot of things have happened to me in the last few years of my life, different things, that have sort of just changed my perspective, and I'm working on learning to be content with what is enough," he said.

Styles emphasized the special nature of his current shows, acknowledging their temporary status. "These shows have been the joy of my life, they're so incredibly special to me. I think in part because I know things like this don't last forever," he stated, thanking fans for their support. "I appreciate the moment. I wanted to be open with you and share it with you because I think maybe all together we can acknowledge how nice it is to be in these rooms and have these moments. It's been a privilege and an honour."

He assured the crowd that his words were not intended to be dramatic. "I'm not saying anything dramatic; I'm not trying to be dramatic; I'm just saying... don't worry. It's just.. I love you, and I wanted to speak to you like I would speak to my friends about this," Styles said, before dedicating a song, 'Carla's Song,' to the audience.

This clarification follows an email sent to fans earlier in the week, in which Styles announced plans to add more cities to his current tour, extending into 2027. "When we decided to do the 2026 tour I knew it would be special but what you turned it into was far beyond what I could have imagined," he wrote in the email. "I love playing music, I love being with all of you and being a part of the love and joy you all create together every night."

However, the same email also contained the line, "After that, I don’t know what comes next for me, but l know that I’m excited to find out." This ambiguous statement triggered widespread fan reactions online, with many interpreting it as a definitive sign of retirement.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly were spotted at one of Styles's recent New York shows, with Fox seen wearing a custom red dress and carrying a cowboy hat. In another concert moment, Styles lightheartedly referenced Taylor Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden, joking that the venue also hosts weddings. Styles and Swift had a brief relationship from late 2012 to early 2013.
