Harrison Ford left the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles shortly after losing the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series to Jeff Hiller, drawing criticism on social media and reports that seat fillers took his and his wife's seats.
Ford, 83, attended the ceremony with his wife, Calista Flockhart, and appeared on the red carpet holding her hand. The actor had been nominated for his role in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking; the Emmy ultimately went to Hiller for his performance in Somebody Somewhere. Entertainment site Showbiz411 reported that Ford departed "as soon as he lost," and viewers on X posted a mixture of surprise and disapproval, with one comment reading, "Seen like sour grapes to me," and another adding, "Han Solo should have hung around."
Before the ceremony Ford told Variety that he does not view creativity as a competition and that he was grateful for the recognition. The nomination marked his first Emmys nod at age 83. He also said he does not plan to retire, telling Variety, "No. That's one of the things I thought was attractive about the job of an actor, was that they need old people, too, to play old people's parts."
Ford has had a long career on film and television, working with directors including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. He reflected in the interview on his early years in the business and on the wave of young, independent-minded filmmakers in the late 1970s and 1980s who reshaped Hollywood. He recounted not expecting sequels to his early hits and said he once did not sign a sequel deal for a role that eventually became a franchise advantage.
The 2025 Emmys were notable for several other winners. The Pitt took Best Drama Series and led drama-night honors, while The Studio and Seth Rogen dominated comedy categories, with Rogen winning Best Actor, Best Directing and Best Writing for the series. Jean Smart won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks. Ford’s loss and quick departure were among the night’s more widely discussed moments, arriving amid a ceremony that also celebrated a wide slate of established and emerging talent.
Representatives for Ford did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The actor remains active in film and television projects following the nomination, and his remarks before the Emmys emphasized gratitude for recognition rather than career endpoint planning.
