The filmed production of the Tony Award-winning musical “Hadestown: The Musical” will be available for digital purchase and rental starting Tuesday, August 25. The film captures a live stage performance of the musical, which is a retelling of the ancient Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone.

Composed and written by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, “Hadestown” first premiered off-Broadway in 2016 before moving to Broadway in 2019. On Broadway, the musical garnered critical acclaim, earning 14 Tony nominations and winning eight, including Best Musical.

The filmed version was shot over three live performances at the Lyric Theatre in London in 2025. It features five original Broadway cast members, including Reeve Carney as Orpheus, André De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and Patrick Page as Hades.

Consumers will be able to buy the film digitally on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, beginning at 12 a.m. Eastern Time on August 25. The price to buy the film on Prime Video is $24.99, and the rental price is $19.99. Pricing may vary across different digital platforms.

A DVD and Blu-ray release is scheduled for October 20, 2026.

Details regarding a potential streaming release on subscription services like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney Plus remain unconfirmed. The film is being distributed in the U.S. by Crosswalk, a division of Bleecker Street that focuses on concert films and filmed stage productions. While another Crosswalk title, “Stray Kids: The dominATE Experience,” became available on Hulu and Disney+ approximately three months after its theatrical opening, there is no guarantee that “Hadestown” will follow the same release pattern. Such a release would potentially place it on subscription services around late October 2026, following the DVD release.

Crosswalk does not currently have an official distribution agreement with any specific streaming services, leaving the possibility of a subscription-based release uncertain.
