Gwyneth Paltrow posted a heartfelt Instagram tribute to her stepdaughter, Isabella “Izzy” Falchuk, for her 21st birthday and used the message to make a rare public comment about her role as a stepmother.
In an Instagram Story, Paltrow, 52, wrote over a photo of Izzy smiling, "Happy Birthday my snizzle. You have taught me so much about love. I am lucky to be your stepmom." Izzy Falchuk recently turned 21.
Paltrow became stepmother to Izzy and her younger brother Brody when she married their father, television producer Brad Falchuk, in 2018. Falchuk, 54, shares the two children with his ex-wife, Suzanne Bulnik, whom he divorced in 2013 after about 20 years of marriage. Paltrow also has two children of her own: daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19, from her marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The Oscar-winning actress and Goop founder has discussed the complexities of blending families in public before. In April, on her Goop podcast with Falchuk, she described a period during which Izzy "was testing me at the time to see at what point I would reject her." Paltrow said she chose a nonjudgmental approach, explaining, "I was going to be that presence for her, always loving and forgiving in the face of, you know, if she acted up, and show her that ultimately I was so there for her that she would not question my intentions or think that I was there to take you away from her."
Paltrow acknowledged she was initially nervous about disciplining the children and said she still reflects on her early choices. "If I look back at my mistakes as a stepmother, I should have just treated them both like my kids way faster, like, I was too worried about everyone’s feelings, in a way," she said on the podcast.
The Instagram birthday message follows a recent social media carousel in which Paltrow shared summer photos that included glimpses of her blended family. Reporting on her comments was carried by Page Six.
Paltrow's update adds to a pattern of occasional, candid remarks about family dynamics from a celebrity who often keeps personal details private.
