Gwyneth Keyworth, known for her role in "Death Valley," has spoken about how her attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis, received approximately two years ago, has been instrumental in her acting career. Keyworth, who was born in Aberystwyth, noted that ADHD was not widely discussed in her community during the 1990s, particularly concerning women.
She recalled experiences in school where teachers misinterpreted her efforts, stating, "you're not trying enough." Keyworth described the frustration of trying her best but struggling with tasks that required prolonged desk work. Her school reports often indicated that she "dreams and doesn't concentrate, is talkative and has a lot of ideas but can't finish reading."
Keyworth found support from educators who provided her with additional time to complete assignments. Reflecting on these challenges now, she recognizes the clarity her ADHD diagnosis provided. The condition has also helped her identify with her character, Detective Janie Mallowan, in "Death Valley."
