Greg James, a presenter for BBC Radio 1, is experiencing profound sadness after the passing of his dog, Barney. James described the loss as "very real and very raw," and stated that Barney "was the best."
Barney was put to sleep in the garden of James's home. Fellow Radio 1 presenter Charlie Hedges temporarily took over the breakfast show duties to allow James time off.
Listeners of Radio 1 expressed their condolences to James, with one listener sending a message during the show saying, "Greg if you're listening, we all love you mate."
James and his partner, Mackenzie, adopted Barney from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in 2019. The dog had previously been treated by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, known from the television program "The Supervet," for arthritis in his joints.
Earlier this year, James participated in a 1,000km (630-mile) tandem cycling challenge across England, Wales, and Scotland for Comic Relief. During this challenge, a video of Barney barking at foxes in their garden served as a motivational aid for James.
