American golf content company Good Good has terminated three senior executives following public backlash over an advertisement that depicted a woman being pushed to the ground. The controversial ad, created for golf club manufacturer Callaway, drew accusations of trivializing violence against women.
Chief Executive Matt Kendrick and President Joe Flannery were dismissed on Wednesday, according to an announcement from the company. Good Good’s vice-president of brand and marketing, Jeffrey Lefkovits, was fired earlier this week. Alex Puchala, head of finance and operations, stated that the dismissals were a difficult day for the company. Nahid Giga, a board member and investor, has been appointed interim CEO.
The advertisement featured Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark pushing professional golfer and content creator Alexis Miestowski to the ground before exclaiming, "Do not touch my new driver." The video, released on the company's YouTube channel which boasts 2.1 million subscribers, was widely condemned.
Both Good Good and Callaway removed the advertisement and issued apologies last month. Callaway also ended its partnership with Good Good and pledged a $1 million donation to organizations dedicated to preventing violence against women and supporting victims. Good Good, which had partnered with Callaway since 2023, has also withdrawn its sponsorship of a PGA Tour event scheduled for November in Austin, Texas. Several retailers have removed Good Good products from their shelves.
Launched in 2020, Good Good has become a prominent creator in the golf content space, known for its challenges, made-for-TV shows, and advertisements for golf apparel and merchandise. Puchala expressed that the company is encouraged by fan support and is focused on moving forward to build the next chapter for Good Good.
