Gemma Atkinson has revealed when she and fiancé Gorka Marquez plan to tie the knot, saying they want their two-year-old son Thiago to be part of the celebration. The radio presenter, 40, and the Strictly Come Dancing pro, 35, met as co-stars on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, though they were not partners on the show. They began dating in 2018 and announced their engagement in February 2021. They share daughter Mia, five, and son Thiago, two, and say they prefer a ceremony that allows Thiago to be involved when he is a bit older.
Speaking to the Express, Atkinson outlined several options, including a ceremony in Spain so family can attend, or a low-key registry office or hotel in Manchester for just the two before hosting a big party. 'We've toyed about doing it in Spain, so his family can come, and we've even thought about doing it in a registry office or a hotel in Manchester, just the two of us, and then have a big party after,' she said. 'But I think now we want to wait until Thiago is a bit older, so maybe next year or the year after, as he's only two. If he's a bit older, he could be involved in it, which would be really nice.'
Earlier in 2022, Atkinson revealed she had postponed the wedding due to both of their busy schedules. She told New magazine: 'Gorka is literally on tour all of this year. We've only got four days off together.' At the time, she suggested she would prefer to have more time with their family rather than a lavish ceremony, signaling a flexible approach to the planning.
The couple’s reality show Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind The Lens was canceled after two series. A spokesperson for UKTV, which owns the U&W channel that aired the show, noted that while the project was a privilege to produce, both stars are busy with other projects and there are no current plans for another series, though they look forward to working with them again in the future."
