Fran Drescher reunited with her former The Nanny on-screen family for a night out that she documented on Instagram, posting a photo with Charles Shaughnessy and several of the sitcom’s creators and producers.
Drescher, 67, captioned the post, "Out 4 sup w/ mr sheffield and the EPs of ‘The Nanny.' A gr8 nite indeed!" Shaughnessy, 70, reposted the image to his own Instagram, writing, "Getting the band back together….?! A great night out with Susan and ‘The Nanny’ gang!!" Also present were co-creator and former showrunner Peter Marc Jacobson, who is Drescher’s ex-husband, and executive producers Robert Sternin, Diane Wilk and Prudence Fraser.
Fans responded enthusiastically to the reunion post, with many calling for a reboot and asking to see where the characters are now. One commenter wrote, "Please do a reboot. I want to see what the twins look like now. Watch Max and Fran become grandparents too." Another wrote, "'Getting the Band back together' Don’t tease us, Charlie 😭💕."
The Nanny originally aired from 1993 to 1999 and followed Fran Fine, a cosmetics saleswoman from Flushing, Queens, who becomes the nanny to the three children of widowed Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield. Shaughnessy played Maxwell Sheffield while the children were portrayed by Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury and Madeline Zima. Fran Drescher also served as co-creator and later executive produced the latter half of the series.
The photo and fans’ comments revived public conversation about a potential return. Drescher previously said in 2023, ahead of the show’s 30th anniversary, that she and Jacobson had been "in conversations with Sony, our parent company, to figure out what we could do that would be fun and exciting for the fans to tune into." She added that there were multiple options under consideration but gave no timetable or concrete plan.
Longtime cast members rounded out the fictional Sheffield household. Renee Taylor played Sylvia Fine, Fran’s mother, and earned an Emmy nomination in 1996 for the role. Taylor has recalled that network executives initially preferred a different casting direction but that Drescher and Jacobson pushed for Taylor. Steve Lawrence appeared as Mort Fine, and other series regulars included Daniel Davis as Niles the butler, Lauren Lane as CC Babcock, and Ann Morgan Guilbert as Grandma Yetta.
Taylor has said the ensemble felt like a real family off-screen as well, a sentiment echoed by fans who have kept the show in syndication and streaming rotations for decades.
As of the Instagram posts, there has been no announcement of a formal revival or production schedule. The reunion photograph offers a public reminder of the series’ enduring popularity and the ongoing interest among viewers and some cast members in revisiting the characters, but any official reboot would depend on further talks among the creators, cast and rights holders.
