Brittany Hockley, a former contestant on the Australian Bachelor and a popular podcaster, has disclosed her fertility struggles after facing criticism for her decision to remain childfree. Hockley, 38, and her husband, Swiss soccer player Benjamin Siegrist, 34, have been sharing images and videos of their travels to various international destinations on social media.
One social media post highlighted their lifestyle with the caption, "I'm 38. Married. Travel the world. No kids." This portrayal of a childfree, globe-trotting life has drawn public scrutiny and personal questions.
In response to the criticism, Hockley posted a heartfelt message on social media explaining her situation. "Every day I get asked why I don't have kids, or if I am having them. That I am missing out," she wrote. "To that I say, I can't fall pregnant."
She elaborated that the inability to conceive has been a significant challenge, stating, "It's not for lack of trying, trust me. . . But we haven't been able to fall pregnant. This is just the truth of it." Hockley described how infertility has been consuming and exhausting, acknowledging that many others share this experience.
Despite the difficulties, Hockley encouraged those struggling with infertility to continue enjoying life and appreciating the moments that are still happening. "I hope you're still able to enjoy life while you're in the thick of it because it's easy to let it completely take over," she advised. "But it would be a shame to miss life's beautiful moments that are still happening."
Hockley also noted that continuing to travel and enjoy life while trying to conceive has its own unique aspects, humorously adding, "And hey, trying in different tropical locations isn't the worst."
Her candid post received widespread support from her followers and other public figures. Model Erin Holland, who has also spoken about her fertility challenges, commented, "Five years of IVF, I'm doing my best, mate. Thank you for reminding us girl. I wish we all took a little more care in our words." Author Libby Babet shared her solidarity, writing, "Was in that place for ten solid years, so I felt this to my bones."
Hockley and Siegrist married in June 2025 in Bali. Hockley recently announced her relocation to Italy to live with Siegrist, citing the need to spend more quality time together after a period of long-distance relationship following their marriage.
