Foden's Band Secures Record 14th British Open Title
The renowned brass ensemble triumphed at the British Open competition, earning a spot in the 2028 European Championships.
Foden's Band has once again been crowned Britain's best brass band, securing their record-breaking 14th victory at the prestigious British Open competition. The win also earns the Cheshire-based ensemble an invitation to represent England at the European Championships in 2028.
The competition featured 19 bands, all vying for the top honor. This latest triumph adds to Foden's Band's storied legacy as one of the world's premier brass ensembles.
"The dedication these musicians put into the craft is phenomenal," remarked one band representative, emphasizing the commitment of players who balance demanding day jobs with their musical pursuits. "I'm always in awe that they actually hold down day jobs as well and then come into the band room in the evening to play so magnificently."
Despite the high stakes and intense pressure associated with performing at such a caliber, the band views their participation as a passion rather than a profession. "You choose to do a hobby; you don't choose to do it badly, do you? You don't go fishing to not catch a fish," one member commented, highlighting the inherent drive for excellence within the band.
Band member Wilkinson, who also received the award for best cornet player at the contest, shared that the weight of the band's history still induces nervousness. "We're the custodians," he stated, "so we want to do a fantastic job just like the players before us so we can pass on this legacy to the next generation."
