The search for the next actor to portray James Bond is entering its final stages, with auditions reportedly taking place this month in London. Casting director Nina Gold is said to be narrowing down a shortlist of between five and seven actors vying for the coveted role.
Several actors whose names have been frequently linked to the part have recently secured endorsement deals with brands historically associated with the spy franchise. Analysts suggest these collaborations may offer clues to the casting choices.
Callum Turner, known for his role in "Master Of The Air," has reportedly signed a deal to front Johnnie Walker, a whisky seen in the Bond film "No Time To Die." Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has starred in Marvel productions, recently became a global ambassador for Omega, a watch brand that has featured in nine Bond films. Jonathan Bailey of "Bridgerton" has signed a deal with Martini, the beverage famously ordered by Bond.
Media expert Mark Borkowski told The Mail on Sunday that these brand partnerships appear to be strategic moves, potentially signaling that these actors are strong contenders for the role. "What we’re seeing is a string of calculated PR moves," Borkowski stated. "None of these brands have signed the actors by accident; they know they could be the future 007."
He added that for brands, aligning with a potential Bond actor is a "punt" but could yield significant returns if the actor is cast. For the actors themselves, these deals provide increased visibility and help them to be perceived as fitting the part.
An actor who may have potentially hindered his chances is Jack Lowden, star of "Slow Horses." Lowden appeared in an advertising campaign for Mini Cooper last summer, a car marque that differs from Bond's signature Aston Martin.
Producers aim to confirm the next Bond by the end of the year. Amy Pascal, a Bond producer, indicated that "the end of the year is a good bet" for a confirmation. Amazon MGM, which now controls the Bond franchise, is expected to begin filming the next movie in 2027.
Other actors reportedly considered for the role include James Norton, Tom Holland, and Theo James. Casting director Ms. Gold has reportedly been meeting with candidates since June.
