Filmmaker Soraya Simi has detailed her six-year effort to complete a documentary, a process that transformed from a planned sports adventure narrative into a profound exploration of love and dedication following the death of the film's subject, Angela Madsen.

Initially, Simi envisioned the film as a triumphant story of adventure sports, focusing on Madsen's journey. However, the absence of original footage compelled Simi to seek alternative ways to reconstruct the narrative. This led her to connect with Deb, Madsen's widow, who became a crucial voice in the film. Through these new perspectives, the film's core message shifted dramatically.

"What we thought we were telling—a triumphant adventure sports story—became something else entirely: a love story," Simi reflected. "Not about what love is, but what love does. About Angela’s unwavering belief that her journey mattered, and Deb’s unconditional faith in her."

The personal connection to the project is evident in Simi's reflections, which describe dreams of Madsen rowing into an infinite horizon. The emotional weight of the project was significant, with Simi feeling she had let Madsen down. The process of piecing together the story through available footage and new voices, particularly Deb's, allowed the film to evolve into its current form. This journey highlights the power of adaptation and the unexpected directions creative projects can take when faced with significant challenges.
