Fats Timbo, known for her appearances on reality television shows like "The Undateables" and "Don't Look Down," has announced her separation from husband Alan Laszczak, with whom she tied the knot less than a year ago. The comedian, 29, shared the news in an emotional Instagram video on Monday, revealing that the couple has decided to divorce after seven months of marriage.
"It's been about four months now since we've been separated, and we have decided we are going to get a divorce," Timbo stated in the video, her voice trembling. "It's very amicable. I don't want to disclose the reason because I respect him."
Timbo, who has achondroplasia, the most common form of short-limbed dwarfism, explained that due to the public nature of their wedding, she felt compelled to address the separation. "Practically the whole world saw it. Now that we're separated, you know, about to get a divorce, it's like everyone's asking about him, everyone's asking about how marriage life is going, and I'm here trying to focus on healing."
The couple, who shared a six-year romance, married last August in a ceremony that blended their Sierra Leonean and Polish heritages. The wedding, held in Cornwall, was attended by friends and family, including "The Traitors" star Meryl Williams. Timbo shared details of her wedding day, including two distinct bridal gowns: a white satin dress with Bardot sleeves and a strapless lace gown for the evening reception.
Timbo described the past few months as one of "the hardest times of her life," expressing surprise at the turn of events. "I never thought a year after getting married, I'd be getting a divorce." She conveyed solidarity with others experiencing similar difficulties, adding, "Anyone that's going through something like this, honestly, I'm holding your hand because it's not easy."
Despite the separation, Timbo expressed gratitude for her six-year experience with Laszczak. "Me and him spent an incredible six years together, and I'll never forget our experience," she said. She also highlighted the importance of her support system, noting, "Over the last how many months, my friends and family have been such a big support system to me. These kind of moments really show who's there for you and who's not."
Timbo, who prefers the term 'little person' over 'dwarf,' first gained public attention on "The Undateables" in 2018, a reality series that pairs single individuals with disabilities. She has since expanded her media presence, appearing in shows like "Don't Look Down" and working as a commentator for the 2024 Paris Paralympics. She has a significant following on TikTok and Instagram, where she shares comedic content.
Laszczak, a photographer, also has a disability, cerebral palsy, and shares his fitness journey on social media. Timbo previously spoke about their relationship, noting that their shared experiences with disability created a unique understanding between them.
