Authorities confirmed that a man found dead at the Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert was the victim of a homicide, and the victim’s father has called for answers.
Pershing County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as 37-year-old Vadim Kruglov, a Russian national who had been living in Washington state. Deputies said Kruglov was discovered "lying in a pool of blood" at the annual event, which draws tens of thousands of participants to the remote playa. The sheriff’s office has appealed to the public for information as investigators continue to develop leads.
In a video posted to Facebook, Igor Kruglov, speaking in Russian, said "words can’t express" his grief and urged authorities to pursue justice. "I’m proud of my son, now known worldwide," he said, adding that his son had been committed to fairness and had a deep sense of injustice. He told Fox News he believed a similar wrong had been done to his son at the festival.
Law enforcement officials released few details about the circumstances surrounding Kruglov’s death, citing the active nature of the investigation. No arrests had been announced as of the latest update. The sheriff’s office asked anyone with video footage, photographs or information related to the incident to contact investigators.
Burning Man, held annually in Pershing County, is a weeklong event that features large art installations and music gatherings. While organizers and local authorities plan for large-scale safety and emergency response each year, remote conditions and large crowds can complicate investigations and medical responses when incidents occur.
Organizers of Burning Man did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Pershing County officials have not provided a motive or identified suspects publicly, and detectives said they would release more information as it becomes available. The county’s appeal to attendees and those in the surrounding area underscores investigators’ reliance on witness accounts and media captured at the event to reconstruct events in the remote desert setting.
The death drew immediate attention on social media and among the festival community, where attendees and former participants described shock and sorrow over the fatality. Local authorities reiterated that anyone with credible information should contact the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the homicide probe. Further updates were expected as the investigation proceeds.
