Fashion influencer Susanna Lau, widely recognized by her online moniker Susie Bubble, has disclosed that her extensive collection of approximately 150 designer handbags was stolen during a burglary at her London residence. Lau, 42, who gained prominence in 2006 with her fashion blog Style Bubble and has amassed over 700,000 Instagram followers, shared the emotional news earlier this week.
Lau reported that she discovered the theft upon returning from a trip to the Maldives. In a video posted to Instagram, she described the moment of realization, stating that her entire handbag collection, accumulated over nearly two decades, was gone. "I went from being the bag lady to being bagless," she remarked, noting that the thieves "cleared me out."
The influencer became visibly emotional discussing the loss, describing the bags not just as possessions but as tangible reminders of significant experiences and as cherished gifts from loved ones. "It's not just a loss of mere stuff, it's memories," she explained.
While declining to provide specific details due to an ongoing police investigation, Lau described the incident as a "huge violation." She shared that the burglary has left her feeling unsafe and anxious in her own home, impacting her daily routines and causing her to hesitate before leaving the house. The presence of her partner has provided some comfort, but the overall experience has been deeply unsettling. "I haven't wanted to go out either because I get scared. What do I do? Should I just stay here? Should I just stand guard?"
Lau acknowledged the first-world nature of her predicament, encouraging her followers to call her out if she seemed overly distressed. "At the end of the day it is just stuff. Come on, tell me I'm being ridiculous, tell me that I'm a dumb b for even doing this video. It's silly to be attached to what is essentially a few pieces of leather stitched together and some hardware," she said. The incident prompted her to reflect on the sheer volume of her collection, admitting, "Nobody needs that many handbags."
Regarding the prospect of replacing the stolen items, Lau stated that it would feel "weird" to repurchase such a large quantity of designer bags at once, preferring the organic accumulation that characterized her original collection. The theft represents a significant loss, impacting not only her material possessions but also, as she put it, "a testament of my work."
