Ethan Hawke marked a rare red carpet appearance with his wife, Ryan Shawhughes, and their 15-year-old daughter, Indiana, at the Deauville American Film Festival in France on Friday. Hawke was honored with the festival's Deauville Talent Award on opening night, recognizing his extensive career in acting, writing, and filmmaking.
Following the award ceremony, Hawke attended the premiere of his upcoming film, "The Weight." In the historical drama, directed by Padraic McKinley, Hawke portrays Samuel Murphy, a man facing imprisonment in a labor camp who becomes involved in a gold smuggling scheme to regain custody of his daughter. The film, which also features Russell Crowe, Julia Jones, and Austin Amelio, is set for a theatrical release on September 18.

For the event, Hawke wore a coordinating all-black suit alongside his wife. Their daughter, Indiana, stood out in a white dress and a coral pink cardigan. The family posed for photos together on the red carpet, with Hawke embracing both Shawhughes and Indiana. This appearance comes shortly after Hawke and Shawhughes celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary over the summer.

Hawke is a father of four. He shares his two eldest children, Maya, 28, and Levon, 24, with his ex-wife Uma Thurman, whom he met on the set of the 1996 film "Gattaca." Hawke and Thurman were married from 1998 to 2005. He and his current wife, Shawhughes, also have a daughter named Clementine, 18, in addition to Indiana.

In November 2025, Hawke spoke to The New York Times about his divorce from Thurman and his second marriage to Shawhughes. He described the difficulties of divorce, particularly regarding family and children, and noted that he had initially intended to remain single. However, he reflected that he found a close friend in Shawhughes and developed romantic feelings for her. Hawke stated he vowed to his children not to discuss the divorce publicly.
