An entire season of the reality competition series "The Traitors" was canceled because of a conversation that could not be broadcast, according to author and television personality Richard Osman. He shared this information during a podcast with host Jack Dean, noting that he was "probably not allowed" to disclose the detail.
"There is one series in one territory where something was discussed at length in the castle," Osman explained. "It led to the show not being able to continue." When Dean asked if the production had lost the entire season, Osman responded affirmatively.
Osman also commented on the Australian version of the show, calling it "the best ever series of The Traitors" and the "single most frustrating series" he had seen. He described a scenario in that season where a traitor was easily identifiable, while the majority of the contestants were easily manipulated.
He also stated his reluctance to participate in the celebrity spin-off, expressing that he would only want to play as a traitor, a role that cannot be guaranteed. Osman prefers the control and ability to remain present for all filming associated with being a traitor, rather than being eliminated early without knowing other traitors.
Separately, Osman, along with former rugby star Joe Marler, revealed a potential release date for the upcoming celebrity season of "The Traitors." While discussing advice for contestants, Marler let slip that the next series might begin on September 23. Osman confirmed the information, noting it was embargoed.
The BBC has released a trailer for the new celebrity season, which will feature participants such as Maya Jama, James Blunt, and Richard E. Grant. Osman mentioned that he had spoken with some of the stars, describing the experience as "quite intense," which Marler contrasted with his own season. Marler characterized his season as "very laugh-led," with contestants more focused on socializing than the game itself, a sentiment he believes differs from the current cast's approach, who are reportedly more eager to win from the outset, influenced by the success of the first season.
