The nominations for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced, with "The Pitt" securing the most nods and signaling a strong showing for the drama series. "Widow's Bay" also made a significant impact with 19 nominations for its debut season.
The nominations list was not without its surprises and snubs. For "The Bear," while the acclaimed series received several nominations for its final season, lead actor Jeremy Allen White was notably absent from the acting categories, despite previous wins. The show itself, however, earned a nomination for best comedy series, and co-star Ayo Edebiri is nominated for best comedy actress.
In the drama categories, "The Pitt" received 25 nominations, nearly doubling its count from its first season. The series is contending for best drama, directing, and casting, in addition to multiple acting categories. Shawn Hatosy, last year's winner for best guest actor, has been elevated to supporting actor and is nominated in the same category as co-stars Patrick Ball and Gerran Howell. Brittany Allen and Jeff Kober earned their first Emmy nominations in guest-acting categories for their roles on "The Pitt," having previously won Daytime Emmys for their work on "All My Children" and "General Hospital."
Several other series and actors saw mixed results. "Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette" garnered a nomination for Sarah Pidgeon's portrayal of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, but co-star Paul Anthony Kelly, who played Kennedy, was overlooked. "Beef" Season 2 saw Charles Melton receive his first nomination, while Cailee Spaeny was not nominated.
Newcomers also emerged among the nominees. "Widow's Bay," a comedy-horror series, earned first-time nominations for cast members Kate O'Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Stephen Root, and Dale Dickey. Charlie Hunnam received his first Emmy nomination for his role in "Monster: The Ed Gein Story." Connor Storrie of "Heated Rivalry" also secured his first nomination, though not for the show that brought him to prominence, due to eligibility rules for shows financed outside the U.S.; he is nominated for guest-hosting "Saturday Night Live."
Established series also saw recognition, with the final season of "Hacks" earning nominations for Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, and Paul W. Downs, and a first-time nomination for supporting actress Meg Stalter. "The Four Seasons" earned a supporting actor nomination for Colman Domingo, though its creator and star Tina Fey was overlooked.
Apple TV's "Your Friends & Neighbors" received a drama series nomination, but star Jon Hamm did not secure an acting nod. Paramount+ saw no acting nominations for its series "Landman" or "The Madison," with the streamer competing only in stunt work for "Tulsa King" and choreography for "Noah's Arc: The Movie."
In the reality television space, Ariana Madix earned a nomination for outstanding reality TV host for "Love Island USA," following her role in the "Scandoval" narrative. "Summer House" received a surprise nomination for unstructured reality show, stemming from its tenth season's storylines. "Dancing with the Stars" also secured a nomination for best reality show after a decade of being overlooked.
